Ujjain's Dewasgate Bus Stand Is Shut From 12 October: Every Service Has Moved to Nanakheda

If you planned to take a bus from Dewasgate, that plan no longer works
Ujjain's Dewasgate bus stand closed completely on Monday, 12 October 2026. Every bus service that used to start there now starts from Nanakheda bus stand, on the far side of the city. Passengers who turned up on Monday found the premises deserted, and regular commuters told the Free Press Journal that reaching Nanakheda now takes 30 to 40 minutes even by motorbike. If you had pencilled in a Dewasgate departure for Agar, Dewas, Maksi, Badnagar or Indore, move that plan to Nanakheda — and leave real extra time to get there.
Why it closed
The administration linked the closure to preparations for Simhastha Mahaparv 2028 and to streamlining traffic. The Times of India quoted Ujjain Regional Transport Officer Santosh Malviya saying road widening, an elevated bridge and other construction are under way in the city, and that the shift is meant to facilitate Simhastha preparation and ease traffic as large crowds are expected.
TOI reported the closure was publicly announced on 9 October, and that the regional transport authority and the Ujjain divisional commissioner ordered it after consulting local government departments and bus operators. Buses were barred from Dewas Gate from 12 October, with operators warned that violations would invite court action, cancellation of permits and registrations, and challans.
Where each route boards now
The new arrangement is not simply everything at Nanakheda. Free Press Journal reported a preliminary route plan: Agar and Maksi buses reach Nanakheda via Mandi, Pandyakhedi, behind Kothi, Pipe Factory and Bharatpuri; Dewas-bound buses travel via Sethi Petrol Pump and Bharatpuri; Indore-route buses come in through Government Engineering College and Aastha Garden; and Badnagar and bypass-route buses use the bypass ring road.
TOI reported a different split, from Malviya: Maksi and Tarana services would operate from vacant land near Makodiya Aam on Agar Road, Indore Road services from Nanakheda, and Badnagar Road services from Mullapura, with all buses using the bypass. Sleeper coaches will run from the ground opposite the Engineering College and, for now, the rear of Nanakheda. The reports disagree on which stand serves which route, so confirm on the day. Both agree Dewasgate is finished as a boarding point.
What Nanakheda is getting in return
Nanakheda is not just a temporary pitch. TOI reported that Ujjain Municipal Corporation will develop the existing stand, spread over 1.689 hectares, with parking, drinking water, toilets and sanitation. Malviya said more stands are planned. Lok Seva buses that used to run from Dewas Gate will also operate from Nanakheda.
What is still not clear
Nobody has said what will be built on the old Dewasgate site. Free Press Journal reported that road and bus-stand works are also proposed in the Dewasgate area, but that authorities have not clarified what goes there. There is no published reopening date, and the Nanakheda upgrade is proposed rather than done. Expect boarding points to move again as the Simhastha works advance.
